Rename part

{{Editprotected}} "and wait for an administrator to rename it." is a bit outdated, probably changing it to "and wait for an administrator or a file mover to rename it." will solve the problem. Diego Grez ^{return fire} 05:07, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Please add "link=" parameter into Wikipedia logo image, as

"link=" should not be used for images other than public domain images (for which it is not legally required to provide any authorship and licensing information). —LX (talk, contribs) 11:34, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

 Not done per LX. To the best of my knowledge, images that aren't PD need to retain clickable links to the file description page. Rd232 (talk) 12:32, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Since we typically don't provide authorship and licensing information using bylines on Wikimedia projects, we need to provide easy access to this information in some other reasonable way. The standard way to do this is to link to a page with that information on it. The fact that File:Gnome-colors-alacarte.svg, File:Gnome-applications-utilities.svg and File:Gnome-edit-delete.svg are unlinked on Template:Welcome/layout is actually a violation of their licensing terms. File:Help-browser.svg is OK to keep unlinked, because it is in the public domain. —LX (talk, contribs) 14:37, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Public domain content may also be uploaded

The following statement was added in this recent edit:

Make sure you only upload freely licensed content. Fair use is not allowed on commons.

This statement fails to mention that content that is in the public domain may also be uploaded. (Content in the public domain does not have a copyright holder who can issue a valid copyright license, and since it is not protected by copyright, it cannot be the subject of a copyright license.) Please remove it or add "or public domain" to it. "Make sure you" could also be removed in the interest of brevity, as it adds nothing. —LX (talk, contribs) 19:17, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Steinsplitter! Just a few suggestions:

• Instead of links with namespaces, colons and slashes, use descriptive link texts. So instead of "Commons:Village pump/Copyright", use "the copyright village pump". Instead of "If you're a Wikipedian, you might find Commons:For Wikipedians useful", use "If you have experience contributing to Wikipedia, we have information that you might find useful."
• Abbreviations like "FAQ" may be commonplace even in non-technical circles for native English speakers, but in this context, I think spelling it out as "frequently asked questions" would be more inclusive.
• "All your uploads are stored in your personal gallery" – they're not really yours once you upload them, and they're not really stored in the gallery. "You can see the files you have uploaded in your gallery" would be more accurate.
• I don't understand why the point about CommonsHelper merits more emphasis than other points (such as only uploading free content). Again, phrases like "be sure to" don't add anything. And I think that "another project" means specifically "another Wikimedia project", so that's probably worth spelling out.
