Recognizing what’s important.

Recognition is a powerful motivator.

It costs us nothing and has a tremendous impact on morale, engagement and productivity; and anything that can help us improve all three of those should be fully embraced.

So why not start on Monday and see the changes that it brings?

It’s so simple and the payback will be significant.

Recognition includes so many different elements:

  • just saying hi to our staff with a smile;
  • asking them how they enjoyed their weekend;
  • asking politely for things rather than demanding;
  • saying thank you for tasks completed;
  • saying well done to tasks that meet our satisfaction.

Just following these simple steps we have increased our engagement, which consequently increases their engagement.

It makes us approachable, and generates a feeling that we working together rather than they working for us.

Our staff knows who the boss is so we don’t need to demand or command them to do things.

Asking politely shows them respect and is also a form of recognition; and everyone wants to be respected,

As we recognize our staff they will look to recognize us, and also each other.

All of this must be done sincerely, if not people will see through it immediately and the impact will be the opposite of what we’re trying to achieve.

An organizations culture reflects the leader, so why not try and create a culture of recognition, where we respect the individuals and praise a job well done.

This is a win-win approach. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

So go on give it a try and let me know how it goes.
