Consistency of your approach to individuals…over time, location and occasions.. and genuine interest… So bottom line.. you are consistently genuine, you are your self.. at work, off work, at team events (before drinking).. A must do, along with leaving the door open 🙂

Open Door is reflected in whether people feel comfortable approaching you. If they don’t then it doesn’t matter whether you have an opened door or no door to your office.
You are closed off from them and they will not approach. And with that you may deny yourself some valuable information which might just have benefited you, your organization and your company.
Also, if you don’t let people feel comfortable approaching you, how can they tell you you’re doing a good job 🙂

Daniel, i have even see people who get promoted stop talking to previous colleagues because they are now a level higher.
How can you expect people to follow you if you won’t let them feel comfortable enough to approach you.
I think we should treat all people as equals, the fact that we may have a higher grade is known is important, but it shouldn’t change how we treat people.
i always try to treat people the same, with the same level of respect whether they are cleaning staff, or CEOs. My level of respect doesn’t vary depending on the comparison of our pay grades.
