Commons:Bots/Work requests

This is a page for requesting work to be done by a bot. This is an appropriate place to simply put ideas for bots. However be aware of various tools available to all users which can be used to accomplish the work without the need for a bot:

Gadget Cat-a-lot can be used for most category adding, removing and moving
VisualFileChange tool can be used for mass-changes of one author's uploaded files, or files in a category, creating a mass-deletion-request, let you insert tags to the file-description-pages (even copy from exif/meta-data). You can also perform find and replace operations with or without JavaScript regular expressions (regexp). A common use case is: "I've changed my username". It's a web-tool and can be launched directly.
AutoWikiBrowser can be used for large number of supervised and automatic edits
Commons:Batch uploading page can be used to request mass image uploads

Delete or change a textphrase in over 16.000 images[edit]

Hi, this is my first request. I work for the Commons:WikiProject Postcards. There we have section Search postcards by filetype with this Searchlink: TIF-images with a word "postcard" and no postcard-category. Normally there is under 1000 images to deal with. But now this search is flooded with images of the Category:Photographs by Frank Scholten. Because over 16.000 of this images has the text phrase "The dating has come into being with the use of the postcards." - Can a bot change or delete this useless text phrase? Hi sk,

The dating was established via postcards that where send by him. This is just an explanation why the date field was entered with their values.

If you want to remove that sentence then there is the option of "visual filechange" for example. There you can change content of files by replacing strings. This can be done with about 3000 files at a time.

Creation of categories "[year] by city by country"[edit]

Tagging panoramic photographs[edit]

@Jeff G., thanks, but (as per my pings) unfortunately I see issues. The way you added the template at the top broke the "Summary" section header; see e.g. here. I think they should probably ideally go under the {{Information}} template, but they should at least be somewhere where they aren't breaking anything. (Separately, the categorization in this area seems to be a complete mess, so I'm going to open a thread on that at the Village Pump. Category:360° panoramic photographs is currently a subcategory of Category:360° panoramas, but it's unclear what distinction there is, and there are several other categories that also seem possibly redundant.) {{u|Sdkb}} ^talk 17:30, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Creation of categories "Railway photographs taken on yyyy-mm-dd"[edit]

I request a bot to creat "Category:Railway photographs taken on yyyy-mm-dd" on a daily basis after 2023-05-14‎. Since all of the 30 categories in April 2023 are in use now, creation of future categories by a bot can be justified, I think. Replace a picture only in Arabic Wikipedia[edit]

Hello,

I'm Ayoub from Arabic Wikipedia.

We, in arabic wikipedia vote to remplace a featured picture by other one, and i was thinking can any bot remplace the old by the new one but only in Arabic Wikipedia articals?

If yes we will be thankful.

@أيوب: To do this in Arabic Wikipedia with AWB or JWB, one would need to be authorized (listed by an Admin on ar:ويكيبيديا:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPageJSON) per ar:ويكيبيديا:AutoWikiBrowser. Updating licence on my pics[edit]

A number of my earlier photos (all in Category:Images by Andy Mabbett or its sub-category Category:Images from Wikipedia Takes Coventry by Andy Mabbett) are cc-by-sa-3.0 (and some are {{tl|self|cc-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}).
